Meet Claudia

After 10 years of medical training and 34 years of medical practice, I have finally retired! But I was very fortunate. I was accepted into Stanford Medical School in 1976 when girls weren’t supposed to go into medicine. I landed two residencies at Mass General Hospital, a Harvard teaching hospital, for my pediatric, and then my anesthesiology residency. After 5 years in Northeast winters, I was delighted to move back to SC in 1986. During 16 years of being a Hilton Head Anesthesiologist, I longed to be in the world of pediatrics and for 18 years I had the great opportunity to work as a Pediatric Anesthesiologist and then start and direct the Pediatric Pain Service at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

The more I saw, the more I thought about my love for the kitchen and cooking and healthy eating. I began to wonder if food could be your medicine, and medicine could be your food. I have now completed my Culinary Medicine Certification and yes, I do believe that food could be your medicine.

What is the Culinary Medicine Certificate?

The Certified Culinary Medicine Specialist™ (CCMS) designation identifies clinicians who have a unique foundation for incorporating healthy eating into patients’ diets: comprehensive knowledge of nutrition and the culinary techniques to prepare food that is consistent with real-world budgets, time constraints, and nutritional ideals.

Through certification, clinicians are empowered to explore the implications of diet on overall health, enhance the quality of patient counseling and improve the management of diet-related chronic diseases.
